Job Summary

  • Responsible to the C-26 Director of Maintenance for overall site operations including the performance and supervision of inspections at the organizational, intermediate and depot level on C-26 aircraft.
  • Responsibilities may include management of C-26 parts, other A&P Mechanics, planning, scheduling, and performance of maintenance, repair, and modification to airframe, ISR/avionics, engines, sub-systems, and related support equipment.  

Essential Responsibilities

  • Interface with operational customer to develop flying schedules and plan major maintenance events, completes daily and monthly operational reports, documents inventory usage, controls workflow. Work with other A&P/ISR Mechanics and technical representatives to trouble shoot, diagnose and solve unusual and complex maintenance problems.
  • Manage aircraft maintenance safety programs and serves as a member on the Safety Committee. Ability to apply logic and good judgment, understand technical order diagrams and procedures, use test equipment for analysis of airframe, engine, flight control, pneudraulic, fuel, electrical/electronic systems, problems.
  • Plan and schedule aircraft utilization and maintenance activity and coordinates performance with operational customer. Maintain accurate parts inventory. Assign maintenance and repair tasks and monitors/evaluates their completion.
  • Manage safety program.
  • Service, repair and overhaul aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure service ability.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures, landing gear, power plants, fuel systems (including tanks and fuel/metering control systems), and functional components using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills.
  • Inspect and repair power plants (engines) malfunctions, including cracked components, oil leaks, etc. Diagnose malfunctions, isolate causes and correct breaks. Test engine operation, using test equipment to locate source of malfunction. Replace and repair damaged components, use hand tools, gauges, and test equipment.
  • Remove engine and major components from aircraft, using hoist or other lifting devices. Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or other defects. Repair and replace defective engine components and reassemble and install engine in aircraft.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace instruments, avionics and navigations, flight control, electrical/electronic, fuel/oil systems and aircraft accessories. Perform aircraft and vehicle services, including engine wash /cleaning, parts lubrication, and maintenance checks.
  • Licensed by Federal Aviation Administration as an Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic. May service engines and airframe components at flight line operations making repairs, short of overhaul, required to ensure aircraft safe operating condition. May specialize in repair and modification of engines, structural components, precision repair, functional spare parts, and assemblies. 
  • Recommend revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship. Work is performed in an office, flight line and shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.  
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
  • Frequently lifts items weighing 15-50 pounds and occasionally in excess of 75 pounds.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
  • The employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.  

Minimum Requirements     

  • Seven (7) years experience as an aircraft mechanic with five (5) years actual and recent experience on C-26 or SA-227 aircraft required.
  • Licensed by the FAA as an Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical publications related to the C-26 is mandatory.
  • Previous experience on turbo prop aircraft; Merlin/Metros, CASA 212 or Jet Stream 31/42 or other TPE 331 experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability combined with attention to detail.
  • Must have knowledge of the scope and limitation of various categories of maintenance and their application.
  • Must know theory and principles of engine operations; accessories and components; theory of flight; rigging of flight controls; electrical and electronic; pneudraulic; and mechanical principles.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal, properties of materials, fuels, and oils.
  • Ability to read, interpret and use manufacturer's and aircraft maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring/schematic diagrams, data tables and other specifications to determine feasibility and method to repair or replace malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Must be able to inspect, repair, and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
  • Position may require travel.
  • Must have a secret clearance
