RCS has an immediate need for Level II MT & UT Seasonal NDE Technicians for the Fall 2020 outage season (approximately 8-12 weeks beginning late August/early September 2020 through late October/early November). This is a Direct Hire assignment with our client, an industry leader in engineering and advanced nondestructive examination (NDE) assessment services.

Our Client

Our client is an engineering consulting firm of approximately 300 highly qualified professionals and support personnel and 12 office locations.  The company offers a full spectrum of state-of-the-art NDE inspection and metallurgical services.

Job Summary

  • The current position is to support field-based projects at various customer locations requiring overnight travel.  Assignments may include supporting the examination of gas pipelines and piping systems at oil and gas, nuclear and fossil power generation facilities located throughout the United States. 
  • Job assignments are typically 5 to 10 days for most projects.  Individuals selected for assignments may be considered for additional project assignments later in the year.  Actual expenses for travel will be covered by our client. 
  • When not working on field assignments, candidates may have opportunities to work out of the Huntersville, NC office. All of our client’s offices are staffed with a unique combination of highly skilled engineers and NDE personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current Level II certification in MT with no less than 2 years of direct experience in these methods inspecting fossil, nuclear or oil and gas power plant piping is required. Individuals interested in applying must provide documented evidence satisfying the qualification requirements for Level II certification along with a current resume.

  • This individual will be interfacing directly with clients; as a result, good communication skills is a requirement for the position.  
  • Individuals should be willing to conduct assignments in environments with less than favorable conditions including physically challenging conditions (heat, cold or physical activities such as climbing or carrying equipment); ability to maintain focus in potentially hazardous industrial environments such as at heights, on scaffolds, noisy locations, with operating machinery nearby or overhead, and with other industrial activities occurring nearby (welding, grinding, flame cutting, overhead loads, etc.).
  • Must be available to travel to client locations throughout the US.  Travel duration typically averages 5-10 days per project (minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 2-3 weeks at a time).
  • Must have a personal credit card for travel expenses (reimbursed).
  • Must have the ability to rent a car and must have a valid driver's license.
  • Due to the nature of this assignment, US Citizens are required.
  • Pass a respiratory physical and fit test.
  • Experience and/or training in welding processes and other NDE technologies in general

Preferred Requirements

  • OSHA-10 safety training preferred.
  • Level II MT Yoke Method preferred.
  • Level II UT (specifically UT Shearwave) preferred or completion of 40-hours of training in ultrasonic testing, with verifiable/documented experience sufficient to obtain Level I certification is preferred
  • Familiarity with and experience in TOFD and Phased Array UT techniques preferred.

  • Background checks, drug testing, and medical screening are a prerequisite for employment.  Access to some customers’ facilities may require additional background and medical screening for security clearance and site access.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Must be willing and able to conduct assignments in an environment of less than favorable conditions including dirty or radiological environments and physically challenging conditions (e.g., temperatures 32-120F or physical activities such as fitting into tight spaces, climbing ladders and/or over pipes or lifting/carrying equipment - up to 50 lbs.)
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain focus in hazardous industrial environments such as in confined spaces, working at heights or on steep terrain where rope access may be required, on scaffolds and aerial work platforms, high noise (85dB or greater), with operating machinery or construction activities occurring nearby (e.g., oxy-fuel welding and cutting, grinding, overhead loads, etc.).
